Art Cars

Each year in Houston we have an art car parade. It's a collection of local artists, and artsy/creative types that have taken the time to decorate their cars into various themes. I went downtown with the neighbors to check it out on Friday evening. Next year we'll have to go to the parade because there are tons more cars that show up for that. You can see more of their cars on their website here. The Art Car Parade has been around 22 years. The parade attracts 250+ vehicles and other entries from 23 states and Canada, and a live audience of some 250,000. Parade entries include anything on wheels from unicycles to lawnmowers to cars, and are as likely to be made by members of the general public as by recognized artists. It started in 1984 with a donated car to The Orange Show (that's a whole other story) but the donated car was decorated with fruit and auctioned off, in 1987 they organized a parade.

In this video the fish and lobsters were singing "You Put the Lime in the Coconut" the car has over 5 miles of wiring inside it to make them all move and light up!
